The Birth of an Heirloom
The coin maker to Augustus picked up a small bronze coin, one of many he had made that day. Looking at it, he wondered where it would end up. The year was 26 B.C.
2,000 years later in England, the father of the young woman who lay in the bed before him cradling the new born boy, smiled at the thought of being a grandfather. Putting his hand into his pocket, he took out the very same bronze coin. Passing the coin to his daughter, he charged her to take care of it until the boy was old enough to appreciate the gift. Smiling, his daughter looked at it and said, "Dad, I'll tell him to pass the coin to his heir."
